Courses / Series 66

The Series 66, the efficient way.

The Uniform Combined State Law exam is the license that turns a registered rep into an adviser, and 45% of it is law. The efficient path is 49 short videos that teach the adviser's question rather than the product mechanics you already know.

Taken alongside the Series 7. All three courses are in the $39/month all-access plan, which starts with 7 free days.

What's included

Built for an exam that is mostly law.

INCLUDED · VIDEO LECTURES

49 video lectures, 4 to 7 minutes each.

Products you have already met are taught from the adviser's side: how to value it, what it risks, who it suits. This is the state-versus-federal registration lesson, with the thresholds worked in front of you.

THE LAW · LESSON 4

State or federal registration?

·The $100 million line divides the two regimes

·Register at $110 million, withdraw below $90 million

INCLUDED · SUMMARY NOTES

152 pages of Complete Summary Notes.

The whole course as a PDF, organized lesson by lesson and cited to the Uniform Securities Act and the Advisers Act rather than to FINRA rules. This is a real page from the registration module.

SIE SimplifiedCOURSE NOTES · REGISTRATION

› State versus federal covered advisers

The plain-English version

Assets under management decide who regulates you. Below the line you answer to the state Administrator; above it you register with the SEC and the state gets a notice filing and a fee, nothing more.

The trapThe exam pays the buffer, not the round number: mandatory at $110 million, withdrawal only below $90 million.

INCLUDED · QUESTION BANK

350 exam-style practice questions.

Weighted the way the exam is weighted, so nearly half the bank is law and ethics. Every answer option explained, every distractor traced to a named misconception, and every item cited to the governing statute or model rule.

SERIES 66 · REGISTRATION · QUESTION 6 OF 14

A state-registered adviser's regulatory assets under management reach $115 million. What must the adviser do?

ARemain state-registered until assets exceed $150 million
BRegister with the SEC, having passed the $110 million threshold

Why: the $100 million line divides the regimes, but registration becomes mandatory at $110 million. The state then receives a notice filing only.

INCLUDED · MOCK EXAMS

3 full 100-question timed mock exams.

150 minutes each at the real topic weights, and the three papers share no questions. Sit them under exam conditions and the law-heavy back half stops being a surprise.

Curriculum

Every topic on the specification, in teaching order.

The course walks the NASAA specification and mirrors its weights: economics and analysis first, then products through the adviser's lens, then recommendations, then the law that carries nearly half the paper.

About the exam

What is the Series 66 exam?

The Series 66, formally the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, is developed by NASAA, the North American Securities Administrators Association, and administered by FINRA. It combines the content of two older exams, the Series 63 and the Series 65, into a single paper.

Passing it alongside the Series 7 qualifies you to register in a state as both a securities agent and an investment adviser representative. That second half is the point: it is the exam that moves you from selling products to giving advice, and it brings the fiduciary standard with it.

The Series 7 is a co-requisite. The Series 66 does not qualify you on its own, and most candidates sit the two close together, which is why this course assumes the products and spends its time on the adviser's question instead.

How the Series 66 exam is structured

The exam has 100 scored multiple-choice questions plus 10 unscored pretest items, a 150 minute limit, and a passing score of 73. NASAA splits it into four topic areas, and the weighting is lopsided: laws, regulations and guidelines carry 45% of the paper, with client recommendations next at 30%. Our lesson counts and all three mock exams mirror those weights exactly.

How hard is the Series 66 exam?

Candidates arriving from the Series 7 usually find the products familiar and the law unfamiliar, and that is where the exam does its damage. The statutes are dense, the definitions are the whole game, and the answer choices turn on applying a rule to facts rather than reciting a section number. Rules also move: the Marketing Rule changed what advisers may do with testimonials, and any prep built on older habits teaches it wrong. Expect 4 to 8 weeks of consistent study on top of the Series 7, and start with the free 20-question diagnostic to see where you stand.
